Most problems have a quick answer below. If not, write to us and we reply in person.

My Mac drive is not found

  • Click Find Mac drives again after the drive is fully connected. Some drives take a few seconds to spin up.
  • Plug it straight into the PC instead of a hub, and try another cable or port. Many "dead" drives are a cable that cannot carry enough power.
  • Open Disk Management (right-click Start) and check that Windows lists the disk at all. If it is missing there, Windows cannot see the hardware and no app can read it.
  • If Windows offers to format or initialize the drive, choose Cancel. Formatting would erase it.

Windows asks for permission

Windows only lets administrators read a whole drive directly, so Find Mac drives asks each time you search. Choose Yes. A small helper then opens drives with a Mac partition, read only, hands them to Diskferry and exits. It never opens your Windows drive. If you chose No, nothing happened; click the button again whenever you are ready.

Without that permission you can still open a disk image: Open a disk image reads .img, .cdr and raw .dmg files directly.

Diskferry never writes to your drive

Because the drive is opened read only, trying Diskferry cannot make a damaged drive worse. If a drive makes clicking or grinding noises, stop using it and talk to a data recovery service instead: every read on failing hardware is a risk.

Contact

Write to support@diskferry.com. It helps if you include:

  • Your Windows version (Settings, System, About).
  • How the drive was formatted, if you know (APFS or Mac OS Extended) and on which macOS version.
  • What you see, ideally a screenshot.
  • The log: open Details at the bottom of the Diskferry window and click Copy details, then paste it into your email. It lists the drives and volumes Diskferry saw and never contains the contents of your files.
